Finesse Rhinoplasty technique is designed to correct deformities of the nose. Rhinoplasty is one of the world's most
frequently performed cosmetic surgical procedures.
Finesse Rhinoplasty is performed to improve nasal function and to enhance appearance. Improving the internal nasal
structure will enable a person to breathe easier. As a person ages, his/her nose becomes longer as the tip
drops down (making breathing more difficult). An unattractive nose may actually become dysfunctional as aging
progresses.
A few words about Finesse Rhinoplasty...
Finesse Rhinoplasty is performed under local anesthesia or twilight sedation. Through internal incisions,
the supporting structures of the nose are sculpted to achieve an enhanced cosmetic appearance. Critical to proper nasal
surgery, a nose must function as well as it appears cosmetically.
There is usually an external dressing on the nose for 5-7 days following surgery to stabilize the nose and control
swelling. If there is a dressing inside the nose, it is small and removed the day following surgery. Traditional nasal
packing is rarely used.
You may experience some discomfort, which can be easily controlled with a mild analgesic. Swelling and discoloration
of the eyes are infrequently experienced. You can expect limited nasal drainage and some slight swelling of the nose
which will gradually decrease over time. It is important to note that the full benefits of this surgery will not be seen
until about a year after the procedure, since the last one to two percent of swelling of the nose disappear very slowly.
Finesse Rhinoplasty ( Nose Surgery ) FAQs
How long is the recovery process after a Finesse Rhinoplasty™ ( Nose Surgery )?
Generally speaking, it takes one week for most of the swelling and any bruising to resolve. This can vary from individual to
individual. While the majority of swelling resolves within the first few weeks, the final result from any rhinoplasty ( nose surgery )
is seen one year post-operatively.
Will I bruise after a Finesse Rhinoplasty™ ( nose surgery )?
It is called a Finesse Rhinoplasty™ because the nasal bones are repositioned with a finesse method with very little nasal trauma.
This results in minimal bruising post-operatively.
Do I need someone to take care of me after my Finesse Rhinoplasty™ ( nose surgery )?
You will need someone to help you for at least one or two days post-operatively. If a supportive friend or family member is not
available, then home nursing can be arranged through our office.
What kind of anesthesia is utilized during a Finesse Rhinoplasty™ ( nose surgery )?
Twilight sedation is used most commonly. During this type of anesthesia, you will breathe on your own, but you will not remember
anything. It is a quick acting type of anesthesia that also wears off quickly. Because you are breathing spontaneously, an
endotracheal tube is usually not used.
Are there stitches placed during a Finesse Rhinoplasty™ ( nose surgery ) and when are they removed?
Our facial plastic surgeons use fine, delicate sutures to close all incisions. The majority of these are dissolvable. The
remaining sutures are removed about 7 days post-operatively.
Is a revision rhinoplasty ( revision nose surgery ) possible?
Our Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeons, Dr. Maloney and Dr. Agarwal, have extensive experience in revision rhinoplasty.
This is one of the most technically challenging procedures in all of Facial Plastic Surgery. Their double board certification
by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS) and the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and
Neck Surgery (ABOTO) gives them the skills required to perform this challenging procedure.
Where is the Finesse Rhinoplasty™ ( nose surgery ) performed?
All procedures are performed at our state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center, Doctors Outpatient Surgery Center (DOSC).
DOSC is fully certified by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
When I can workout after a Finesse Rhinoplasty™ ( nose surgery )?
You will be able to resume walking exercises about one week post-operatively. You will be able to start running two weeks
post-operatively. You can ease back into weight training after two weeks, and advance from there. Contact sports should be
avoided for about 6 weeks.
When can I swim after a Finesse Rhinoplasty™?
After the splint is removed (usually one week post-operatively), you can submerge your head in the pool.
When can I return to work after a Finesse Rhinoplasty™?
If you feel comfortable working with a visible splint in place, then you can resume work two days post-operatively.
Otherwise, you can return to work after the splint is removed (usually one week post-operatively)
How long do I need to be in town after a Finesse Rhinoplasty™ ( nose surgery ) and when can I fly again?
At the Aesthetic Surgery Center, we have many national and international patients who fly to Naples for their Finesse
Rhinoplasty™ (nose surgery). We ask that you remain in town for at least 7 days post-operatively. After that, you are free to fly.
How long before I can breathe after a Finesse Rhinoplasty™ ( nose surgery )?
Our Facial Plastic Surgeons rarely use any intranasal packing after a Finesse Rhinoplasty™ ( nose surgery ). In less than 5% of cases,
a small amount of packing may be utilized. Depending on what is required during surgery, you may have intranasal swelling that
limits your breathing for 4 or 5 days, up to a few weeks. This will gradually improve with time.
How long do I wear an external splint after a Finesse Rhinoplasty™ ( nose surgery )?
An external splint is a small cast that sits on the bridge of your nose for one week after a Finesse Rhinoplasty™ ( nose surgery ).
It helps to stabilize the tissues and reduce swelling.
Can I wear glasses after a Finesse Rhinoplasty™ ( nose surgery )?
Ideally, glasses should not rest on the bridge of the nose for 4 weeks post-operatively. Our nurses will show you how to tape
the glasses to avoid pressure on the nose.
Do I have to stop any medications before my Finesse Rhinoplasty™ ( nose surgery )?
Our nurses at the Aesthetic Surgery Center will provide you with a comprehensive list of medications (both prescription and
non-prescription) that are known to increase bleeding and affect wound healing after surgery. These should be stopped about
10 days pre-operatively.
Does insurance cover a Finesse Rhinoplasty™ ( nose surgery ) procedure?
At the Aesthetic Surgery Center, Dr. Agarwal participates with a few insurance plans. If there is a functional impairment
in breathing, some insurance plans may reimburse for correction of a deviated nasal septum, reducing the size of turbinates,
or correction of nasal valve collapse. However, you would be responsible for fees associated with any cosmetic improvement
in the appearance of the nose.
