Our Achievements
What is Renuvion®?
Renuvion® is a surgical device that uses precise streams of plasma energy to contract soft tissues. The procedure has emerged as an effective option for those wishing to contour their body without resorting to more invasive procedures that leave noticeable scars and require longer downtimes.
Renuvion® is similar to laser liposuction treatments in that both utilize targeted heat energy to breakdown tissue under the skin. While laser liposuction targets and kills fat cells, Renuvion® targets cells in the subdermal connective tissues, using plasma energy to cause immediate skin contraction and longer-term skin remodeling and collagen production.
Originally marketed under the J-Plasma® brand 20 years ago, the technology has been adopted for a variety of surgical applications in recent years due to its safety profile, ability to minimize thermal spread to other areas, and effectiveness. Plastic surgeons helped drive its use for soft tissue contraction, with many calling it one of the most exciting advancements they’ve seen in two decades. Renuvion® is the only device that is FDA cleared for use after liposuction, and the only device that is FDA cleared for contracting subcutaneous tissue.
How does it work?
The handpiece is inserted under the skin and delivers a unique combination of radiofrequency energy and helium plasma to the collagen-rich tissue. This energy contracts the collagen fibers and pulls the skin closer to the muscle. This yields a more contoured, and tighter appearance. Renuvion® is the result of decades of research, evidence-based medicine, and clinical data. The treatment is highly precise and has minimal impact to surrounding tissue. Immediate results are noticed, and you will continue to see improvement for months!
What Is Renuvion® Used for?
Have you noticed areas of your body where there is loose or sagging skin? Maybe your arms, abdomen or thighs are not as firm and smooth as it used to be? Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Casey Holmes offers a safe, effective, minimally invasive solution called Renuvion. This skin tightening treatment gives Naples-Fort Myers patients more youthful-looking contours without the incisions and downtime associated with plastic surgery. Women and men choose Renuvion® for nonsurgical skin tightening on a variety of areas, including:
- Upper back and bra line
- Upper arms
- Tummy, waist, and hips
- Buttocks
- Thighs
- Knees
- Neck (appropriate candidates)
Dr. Holmes performs Renuvion after fat removal with liposuction to tighten and smooth out skin that has lost its natural elasticity with time or after being stretched.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Renuvion® (J-Plasma®)?
Renuvion® works best for people who want to tighten mild to moderate skin laxity on the body or extremities without surgical excision of skin and weeks of downtime. If your skin is significantly lax and inelastic due to pregnancy, major weight loss, or the aging process, you may need a surgical procedure such as a tummy tuck, thigh lift, or arm lift instead of Renuvion treatment. Because the effectiveness of Renuvion® varies by skin and body types, Dr. Holmes first assesses potential patients with an examination and consultation to determine whether they are good candidates for the procedure.
What Are Renuvion® Treatments Like?
Dr. Holmes performs Renuvion® as an outpatient treatment that takes about an hour to complete alone or can be combined with liposuction for a more dramatic result. He uses local anesthetic with oral sedation or deep IV sedation and an epidural depending on the specifics of the procedure and personal preference. Dr. Holmes inserts the Renuvion® probe under the skin through tiny incisions near the targeted areas or through the same incisions used for liposuction. As he moves the probe back and forth under the skin, radiofrequency (RF) energy and the Helium plasma are released to quickly heat and cool the skin from within resulting in skin contraction.
When combining Renuvion® with liposuction, Dr. Holmes first removes the excess fat and then inserts the Renuvion® probe through the same incisions to perform skin tightening to the desired areas.
What Should I Expect During Recovery?
Depending on the areas treated, patients are usually ready to return to non-strenuous daily activities within 3 to 5 days. Expect discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the treated areas initially. You will need to wear a compression garment or wrap for up to 4 weeks to minimize swelling, aid in the contraction, and encourage smooth results.
