No matter how well you take care of your skin, you’ll eventually begin to see wrinkles and folds. It’s just the nature of aging. Despite that reality, most people aren’t willing to give in so easily to the signs of aging. Fortunately, a number of effective, minimally invasive treatments are now available for softening unwanted wrinkles. If you don’t feel that your appearance matches how youthful you feel inside, then options like hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers might be able to help you look and feel your best by reducing the severity of facial wrinkles.
Stubborn lines around the nose and mouth can be especially difficult to treat. That’s because these are high movement areas, and the lines can be deep and severe. Fortunately, Juvederm’s newest hyaluronic acid filler, Juvederm Vollure, is formulated to address deep folds like the nasolabial (parentheses) lines and other moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. The staff at Aesthetic Surgery Center in Naples is excited to be among the first practices in Southwest Florida to offer this effective treatment.
What is Juvederm Vollure?
Juvederm Vollure is a new injectable hyaluronic acid filler that restores volume and firmness to the skin by smoothing out deep static folds and wrinkles. Unlike dynamic wrinkles, which are formed by repetitive facial movements over the years, static wrinkles are mostly caused by volume and collagen loss in the skin, also symptoms of aging. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring substance in the skin that helps skin maintain volume and hydration. Vollure can be used to treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles, and it has been shown to last much longer than many other fillers currently on the market. Part of the reason it is so effective is that Vollure uses Juvederm’s Vycross technology, which links different weights of HA molecules together into one cohesive gel, resulting in effective, long-lasting rejuvenation.
What are the Benefits?
As an injectable HA filler, Juvederm Vollure offers many benefits to patients. It’s a convenient, low-risk procedure that is accessible to people who want rejuvenation without surgery. One of the biggest benefits of Vollure is that it can address even severe facial folds and wrinkles, such as those in the nasolabial area. These are the lines that extend down from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth. Vollure is one of the most long-lasting fillers on the market, and many patients are happy with the results for up to 18 months. Many other formulas are also effective for treating wrinkles and folds but often only last about 6-12 months on average.
HA fillers do not require downtime, and discomfort during the procedure is minimal. Most patients are thrilled with the natural results these treatments produce, and they fit easily into busy lifestyles. Many people who undergo Vollure treatments notice a boost in confidence and self- esteem after treatment since the treatments can improve the youthfulness of the face overall.
Who is a Candidate?
The good news about fillers is that they’re made from a substance that is found naturally in the body, making allergic reactions and other complications very rare. There’s no surgery, just a few quick injections, so the treatments are safe for most patients.
Good candidates for Juvederm Vollure treatments are healthy adults with moderate to severe static wrinkles and folds who want to look more youthful by softening these signs of aging. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not undergo HA filler treatments, and patients undergoing immunosuppressive therapy or taking blood thinners may not be good candidates.
Patients should maintain realistic expectations for the results of the procedure and should understand that the longevity of results depends on a combination of factors. Some patients may want to consider combining Vollure treatments with other procedures to achieve the desired results.
Your Vollure Consultation
Before you make your appointment for your first Vollure treatment, you’ll need to meet with our talented plastic surgeons in Naples. During your consultation, you and our experts will discuss your goals and health history to find out whether Juvederm Vollure is the right treatment option for your needs. If it is not, alternatives will be presented to you to ensure your treatment is customized to you.
Be sure to come to your consultation ready to ask questions and get to know your plastic surgeon. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about your options and to ensure that you are a good candidate for Vollure treatments.
The Procedure
Prior to the procedure, you and your plastic surgeon will determine which areas of the face should be treated. The Vollure procedure itself is brief and discomfort should be minimal. The first injection will help numb the area with lidocaine, making the rest of the treatment more comfortable. The product will be injected in small amounts to achieve the desired results, ensuring that neither too much or too little is used. Ice may be used after treatment to reduce swelling. After this, patients are free to return to normal activities.
Recovery and Downtime
Like other hyaluronic acid fillers, there’s no downtime or recovery associated with Vollure injections. However, it is recommended that patients refrain from strenuous exercise and alcohol consumption in the 24 hours following the procedure to minimize normal side effects. These side effects are temporary, and may include redness, swelling, discomfort, tenderness, lumps and bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. These should subside within about 2 weeks.
Juvederm Vollure FAQs
Will the results look natural?
Hyaluronic acid fillers are known for their beautiful, natural results, and Juvederm Vollure is no exception. Because the results are subtle but effective, most people won’t suspect that any treatment was performed. They may just think you look well-rested, or “glowing”. One of the many benefits of HA fillers is that it is possible to be discreet if you don’t feel like discussing your procedure.
What are the potential complications of Juvederm Vollure?
Fillers are exceptionally safe, but as with any cosmetic treatment, there is potential for complications. Aside from normal side effects like minor redness, swelling, itching, and tenderness, there are some rare complications that can be serious. These may include infection, vision abnormalities, scabs, scarring, blindness or stroke (from injection into a blood vessel). Choosing a qualified plastic surgeon will significantly decrease risks.
Can Vollure treatments be combined with other procedures like Botox and laser treatments?
Absolutely. Hyaluronic acid fillers work well in combination with other cosmetic treatments. If you are interested in combining treatments, you and your doctor will come up with a treatment plan that suits your needs and prevents issues that can arise with combining some treatments. Combining treatments is a great way to reach your anti-aging goals without turning to invasive procedures.
How often are maintenance treatments needed?
The longevity of the results varies from person to person, but you should expect to need treatment every 8-18 months, on average.
Who should perform Vollure treatments?
Because correctly administering injectable fillers requires skill, finesse, and experience, you should only seek treatment from a board certified plastic surgeon. A plastic surgeon will have the knowledge and expertise to help you maximize results while minimizing risk. Don’t take chances when it comes to choosing your provider.
What makes Juvederm Vollure different from other hyaluronic filler treatments?
Juvederm Vollure lasts longer than many other HA fillers due to the advanced Vycross technology used in the formula. This allows different sizes of HA molecules to be linked together into one gel, creating a more effective and longer-lasting filler.
Is it possible to be too young or too old for Vollure?
Currently, Vollure is approved for adults over the age of 21. It has not been studied in younger patients and is generally not a necessary treatment for young adults since deep folds are typically age-related. However, the nasolabial folds are often among the first folds to appear, and Vollure can be very helpful for any patient over 21 who is unhappy with the appearance of these and other facial folds.
Are Vollure treatments helpful for crows’ feet?
“Crows’ feet,” which are the wrinkles at the corners of the eyes, are dynamic wrinkles that are caused by smiling and frowning over time, not from loss of volume and collagen in the skin. Botulinum toxin injections like Botox are better for these types of wrinkles since they smooth the lines by relaxing the muscles, rather than filling in areas with volume loss. Vollure treatments work best on static wrinkles.
How dramatic are the results?
While the results of Vollure injections are very impressive, they are best described as subtle since they rejuvenate the face while keeping the appearance very natural.
Is it possible to have an allergic reaction to Vollure?
While it is very rare, patients with a history of severe allergic reactions should not undergo Vollure treatments, since an allergic reaction is more likely. Additionally, patients who are allergic to lidocaine should not be treated with Vollure. Lidocaine is used in the formula to make the injection process more comfortable for patients.
